Testimonials

I had an amazing experience at the birth photography workshop last weekend. It was informative and enjoyed the stress free shooting practice. The models and birth workers were wonderful at creating a mock birth experience for us to photograph. A thoughtfully created lineup and generous hospitality. Being surrounded by passionate, likeminded women fuels my heart. What a great opportunity to find and bond with people that feel like family! Thank you Alaina for creating this space.

The birth photography workshop covered all things birth + birth photography. We worked on camera settings, tough lighting situations, & how to tell a birth story. There were several models throughout the workshop that we got to practice on in a variety of settings. We learned about the biology of birth, the sacredness of the birth space, how to take care of yourself as an on-call birth worker, & how to show up for yourself so that you can give to others. And what really made this workshop even more wonderful was the intimate setting + really getting to bond with a community that is on a similar path, but in their own beautiful way. It truly was so much more than I could have imagined.

I have been admiring Alaina and her work for years.
When she announced that she would be hosting a workshop I was so eager to be part of it.
With her extensive years of experience she really brings a library of knowledge.
The workshop allowed our group to have an immersive experience on what to expect.
Thank you Alaina for sharing your knowledge and wisdom

“I’ve come across (very few, and only online) birth photography workshop-style programs, but had yet to find someone actually host something like this in person specifically for Birth Photography. I personally feel that 1-on-1 mentorship time where you’re both looking at the same camera, the same settings, the same photo, and in the same environment, is way more helpful than doing a program online. Not only am I newer to Birth Photography, I am brand new to photography in general. Which means I’m still learning all of the ins and outs of my camera, and how my shutter speed, aperture, and ISO all work together and effect one another. So it was comforting to have Alaina be my non-judgmental eye that could answer my questions in depth and with full gentleness and support. I left feeling validated about a camera issue I had been having, and with a much greater grasp on the proper settings + my camera’s capabilities in the rapidly changing birth environment. The help I received has translated into other types of photo sessions as well and I’ve already noticed an immediate growth in my skills and confidence as a photographer overall. The feeling of imposter syndrome has been nagging at me lately, but this Shootout has quite literally whisked that feeling away. Thank you Alaina!”
